Nature

by Charissa Nasrallah

One afternoon while picking up cans, I found a salamander underneath some aluminum foil.  It was an optimistic sign that they were adapting to some of the elements humans have added to their natural environment.  It wasn’t enough to convince me to give up my crusade picking up the cans across America, but it was enough to give me hope for the frogs and other amphibians.

Who can say exactly what sort of impact I made on the small patch of marshlands and Maritime forest which comprised the South Carolina state park where I worked.  I don’t believe there is any person who can say for sure, and if this experience has taught me anything, it has definitely taught me I have a lot more to learn.  Through time, experience and study, I hope to obtain a better understanding as to how to act in the best interest of this planet and all it’s inhabitance, for I believe that somehow we are all linked to each other, and perhaps something even greater.

I had always dreamed of starting my own gypsy caravan, where a bunch of my friends and I just drive around from town to town in either solar or electric cars.  We would stay with various friends all over the nation and set up road side stands to educating others about how they can help solve many of the ecological problems the wilderness and humans are facing.  We wouldn’t steal, but we would take what others offered, what was left over and was in jeopardy of being wasted.

What positive point of the universe are you plugging now?

I knew I personally had a great deal more to learn about the purpose of life since the world has produced people with such as Siddhartha, Jesus, Martin Luther King and numerous spiritually evolved women I’m sure have existed but whose documentation has been blocked by a male dominated society. I enjoy attention as much as anyone else, but by this time I was so tired of telling my story, I couldn’t fathom going to court.

We all go back to the land.
