Speaking of these diamonds owned by the inuit (eskimo) of the northwest territory, DeBoers recently attempted hostile takeover bid has failed, you can get them most places also known as the Polar Ice diamond they have a mini not seen to the naked eye polar bear lasered into each one so you don't accidentally buy a blood diamond. As for the environmental degradation aspect well, i'm from a gold and silver area (the yukon) and it's pretty bad, all of it the metals that is it's pretty hard to separate most metals purely and environmentally. I have some friends actually from NZ (New Zealand) that did the Maori thing with tatooed wedding rings, really beautiful ancient designs that might be the most earth friendly option.

Good luck, I'm going through a similar thing, we're getting married next year. Not decided on whether to go diamond or not.
